Toyo University’s Student Athletes Performing Brilliantly on Global and Professional Stages
東洋大学では「スポーツを『哲学』し、人と社会と世界をむすぶ」を理念とした「TOYO SPORTS VISION」を掲げ、スポーツを通じた人材育成や社会貢献活動に取り組んでいます。コロナ禍で従来通りの活動が制限されるなか試行錯誤しながらも、東京五輪・パラ大会の日本代表に在学生が2名、卒業生が8名内定と、2016リオ大会を上回る選手数となっています（2021年4月時点）。また、硬式野球部、サッカー部男子部門・女子部門、ボクシング部の選手たちがプロの世界に向けて新たなスタートを切っています。

東洋大学の在学生・卒業生で東京2020オリンピック・パラリンピック競技大会の日本代表に内定している選手は、在学生2名、卒業生8名の計10名に上り、2016リオ大会の出場人数8名を超え、東洋大学史上最多となっています（2021年4月時点）。

【硬式野球部】
2020年のプロ野球新人選手選択会議（ドラフト会議）で、硬式野球部の村上頌樹選手（当時：総合情報学部4年）が阪神タイガースから5位、本学卒業生でENEOS野球部に所属する藤井聖投手（2019年3月法学部卒業）が東北楽天ゴールデンイーグルスから3位で指名を受けました。
【サッカー部】
サッカー部男子部門から4名、女子部門から4名の計8選手がプロサッカークラブと契約。市原亮太選手（当時：国際観光学部4年／FC今治）、板倉洸選手（当時：国際観光学部4年／ヴァンラーレ八戸）、大内梨央選手（当時：食環境科学部4年／サンフレッチェ広島）などが2021年より加入しました。
【ボクシング部】
ボクシング部からは豊嶋海優選手（2021年3月経営学部卒業／大橋ジム所属）が、2021年3月にプロテストＢ級合格しました。階級はフェザー級です。

Toyo University works on the development of human resources and social contribution activities through sports in pursuit of the Toyo Sports Vision with the key principle of “Exploring sports from a philosophical perspective to unite people, society, and the world.” Amid the restrictions on normal activities during the pandemic caused by COVID-19 and through trial and error, two current students and eight graduates unofficially qualified to represent Japan in the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo, surpassing the number in the 2016 Olympics and Paralympic Games in Rio (as of April 2021). Also, athletes from our Baseball Club, Men’s Football Club, Women’s Football Club, and Boxing Club have made a new start toward the professional world.

The number of current students and graduates who unofficially qualified to represent Japan in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games has reached ten, including two current students and eight graduates, surpassing the eight who qualified to represent Japan in the Rio 2016 Games and becoming the largest number in our history (as of April 2021).

Athletes taking on a challenge in the professional world after graduation
« Baseball Club »
In the 2020 Professional Baseball New Player Selection Conference (Draft Conference), Syoki Murakami, a member of the Baseball Club (then fourth-year student of the Faculty of Information Sciences and Arts) and Masaru Fujii (a graduate of the Faculty of Law in March 2019, member of the ENEOS Baseball Team) were selected fifth by the Hanshin Tigers and third by the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles, respectively.
« Football Club »
A total of eight players, four from the Men's Football Club and four from the Women's Football Club, signed a contract with professional football clubs. Ryota Ichihara (then fourth year of the Faculty of International Tourism Management), Ko Itakura (then fourth year of the Faculty of International Tourism Management), and Rio Ouchi (then fourth year of the Faculty of Food and Nutritional Sciences) joined FC Imabari, Vanraure Hachinohe, and Sanfrecce Hiroshima, respectively, in 2021.

From our Boxing Club, Kaiyu Toyoshima (graduated from the Faculty of Business Administration in March 2021, member of the Ohashi Boxing Gym) passed the Professional Test Class B in March 2021. He is in the featherweight division.
