Toyo Summer/Winter Programs
Toyo Summer/Winter Programs offer Japanese language classes for beginners covering 4 skills as well as interactive Japanese classes with Toyo students. The Summer/Winter Program is held exclusively for Toyo's partner universities. We deliver these two-weeks programs twice a year in August and January/February.

Cancellation Policy:
We will refund the program fee to a participant following below policy.
If a participant canceled from January 22 through January 29, 2024, s/he will receive 100% refund.
If a participant canceled from January 30 through February 11, 2023, s/he will receive 50% refund.

Customized Programs
Toyo University will arrange a bespoke program, in-person or online, featuring contents in both English and Japanese. Contents and length of the program can be arranged flexibly so that it can meet your needs and interest.

What You Can Do in both Programs
- ☑ Intensive Japanese Language Classes

We can set any level from zero beginner to advanced, depending on students’ needs. About 12-15 lessons (90minutes) can be included in our two-week program. Toyo’s professional teachers will design the learning contents of the program.
- ☑Japanese Cultural Learnings and Experiences

The program consists of theoretical learning on Japanese culture (about 3-5 lessons [90 minutes] for 2 weeks) and practical experiences of Japanese culture. Participants will have many chances to enjoy Japanese culture through site visits and activities on campus.
- ☑Interactions with Toyo Students

This program will have a lot of opportunities for students to interact with Toyo students. They will join the welcome and farewell parties, accompany students on site visits, and join some Japanese language classes as language partners.
Where You Stay
AI-House HUB 4 (Toyo’s Dormitory)
Participants will be able to stay in Toyo University’s international dormitory, “AI House HUB 4”. The dormitory is located in Akabanedai, 30-40 minutes away from Hakusan Campus. AI-House HUB 4 has various open spaces to facilitate communication and interactions among residents, and all students have their own private room.
Meals (breakfast and dinner) are included if you stay during a semester.
Toyo University can arrange hotel accommodations if a client prefers that, or if spots at AI-House HUB 4 are not available

2024.02.07｜WED 渤海大学（中国）向けのWinter Programを実施しました
The Winter Program for Bohai University (China) was conducted -
2024年1月16日～31日、中国の渤海大学から学生19名及び引率教員2名の計21名を受け入れ、2週間のウィンタープログラムを実施しました。
東洋大学と渤海大学は2022年3月に協定を締結しました。コロナ禍が終息しつつある2022年に協定が締結でき、これから様々な形での国際交流を進めていく中での、最初の大きな交流としてショートプログラムを受け入れることになりました。
From January16th, 2024 to 31st, we hosted 19 students and 2 chaperon from Bohai University in China for a 2-week winter program.
Toyo University and Bohai University established an agreement in March 2022. Since the agreement was launched when the COVID 19 situation was improving, both universities decided to conduct a short program as our first major exchange.
今回のプログラムでは、日本語・日本文化の授業やフィールドワークなどを通じて、日本語や日本文化・社会を集中的に学ぶ内容となっています。浅草、隅田川のボートクルーズやTeamLabなどの東京の有名な観光地でのフィールドトリップに加え、伝統的な和紙作り、書道体験や食品サンプル作り様々な日本文化体験プログラムが含まれています。書道体験や食品サンプル作りは、東洋大学の学生団体が協力してくれました。また、フィールドワークには東洋大学の学生数人も同行し、東洋大学の学生と一緒に文化体験ができることも本プログラムの魅力的なポイントとなっています。
In this program, students will intensively learn Japanese language, Japanese culture and society through Japanese language/Japanese culture classes and field trips.
In addition to fieldwork at famous tourist spots in Tokyo such as Asakusa, Boat Cruise and the TeamLab, the program includes various Japanese cultural experience programs such as traditional washi paper making, Japanese calligraphy and Food sampling. The students of the Calligraphy Club and Food Sampling Club helped cultural activities. In addition, several Toyo University students will accompany you during your fieldwork, and one of the attractive points of this program is that students will be able to experience cultural experiences with Toyo University students.

最終日に行ったFarewell Partyでは、渤海大学の学生からサプライズのプレゼントがありました。プログラムで習った日本語を使いながら、みんなで日本の歌を歌ってくれました。心温まるパーティーになりました。
At the Farewell Party, Bohai students gave Toyo members a surprise gift. They sang a Japanese song for Toyo members. It was a heartwarming party.
フィールドワーク及び日本語の授業に東洋大学生がサポーターとして入ることで、両大学の学生の交流と学びの場となっており、渤海大学の学生だけではなく、サポーターとして入った東洋大学学生も交流を楽しんでいる様子が伺えました。同じ漢字圏である日本と中国は文化的に似ている点も多いですが、異なる点も多く、両大学の学生が双方の異文化を楽しく理解し合おうとしている様子が伺えました。
By having Toyo University students participate as supporters in fieldwork and Japanese language classes, it has become a place for students from both universities to interact and learn. Not only students from Bohai University, but also Toyo University students who have joined as supporters can interact with each other. Although Japan and China, which share the same kanji, have many cultural similarities, there are also many differences, and the students from both universities seemed to be having fun trying to understand each other's different cultures.
国際教育センターでは、引き続きショートプログラムを実施し、協定校からの学生を受け入れ、海外大学の学生向けに日本語・日本文化の学習機会を提供するとともに、東洋大学のグローバル化の促進にも努めます。
The Center for Global Education and Exchange will continue to hold short programs, accept students from partner universities, provide opportunities to learn Japanese language and culture for students from overseas universities, and strive to promote the globalization of Toyo University.
2024.01.29｜MON Hartwick College（米国）向けのWinter Programを実施しました

2024年1月8日～28日、アメリカのHartwick Collegeから学生17名及び引率教員2名の計19名を受け入れ、3週間のウィンタープログラムを実施しました。
東洋大学とHartwick Collegeは2018年に協定を締結し、交換留学の学生交換やショートプログラムの受入など、様々な交流を実施しています。同大学のウィンタープログラムは３回目の受入になります。
今回のプログラムでは、日本語・日本文化の授業やフィールドワークなどを通じて、日本語や日本文化・社会を集中的に学ぶ内容となっています。
浅草や東京スカイツリーなどの東京の有名な観光地でのフィールドワークに加え、伝統的な和紙作り、餅つき、しめ縄づくりなど様々な日本文化体験プログラムが含まれています。Hartwick Collegeの学生達は様々な日本文化を興味深く体験しているようでした。フィールドワークには東洋大学の学生数人も同行し、東洋大学の学生と一緒に文化体験ができることも本プログラムの魅力的なポイントとなっています。

本学が実施するショートプログラムでは、インタラクティブな会話の練習のために、東洋大学の学生が日本語ボランティアとして授業に入ります。Hartwick Collegeの学生達は、習った日本語を使って東洋大学の学生と会話の練習を行いました。
フィールドワーク及び日本語の授業に東洋大学生がサポーターとして入ることで、両大学の学生の交流と学びの場となっており、Hartwick Collegeの学生だけではなく、サポーターとして入った東洋大学学生も交流を楽しんでいる様子が伺えました。
- 2023.06.21｜WED Hong Kong Metropolitan University（香港）向けのサマープログラムを実施しました The Suｍｍer Program for Hong Kong Metropolitan University was conducted

2023年6月5日～18日、香港のHong Kong Metropolitan University（HKMU）から学生9名及び引率教員1名の計10名を受け入れ、2週間のサマープログラムを実施しました。
東洋大学とHKMUは2019年に協定を締結し、2019年に同大学（当時は香港公開大学）向けのショートプログラムを実施しました。その後、コロナ禍により両大学の対面による交流は延期されていましたが、今年、ようやくサマープログラムの受入が実現しました。このサマープログラムには、HKMU教育言語学部の学生が参加しており、通常の日本語・日本文化の授業やフィールドワークなどの日本語や日本文化・社会を集中的に学ぶ内容に加えて、日本の教育制度概要や日本の英語教育に関する授業や東洋大学附属京北中学高等学校への訪問を設けました。
またプログラム内で、栃木県大田原市で2泊3日のホームステイを体験しました。現地では、野菜の収穫や日本食の料理など様々な体験を楽しみました。
日本語の会話の授業には日本語ボランティアとして協力してくれた東洋大学の学生、フィールドワークには学生団体（TGS）が参加し、積極的に活動に協力してくれました。

2023年5月8日～27日、カナダのThompson Rivers University（TRU）から学生17名及び引率教員1名の計18名を受け入れ、3週間のサマープログラムを実施しました。
東洋大学とTRUは2007年に協定を締結し、活発に学生交流を実施しています。2022年10月には国際学部国際地域学科の40名の学生がShort Intensive Program (ShIP)としてTRUに1か月滞在しました。今回、コロナ禍により2年以上に延期となっていたTRUのショートプログラムの受入がようやく実現しました。
このサマープログラムでは、日本語・日本文化の授業やフィールドワークなどを通じて、日本語や日本文化・社会を集中的に学ぶ内容となっています。日本語の会話の授業やフィールドワークには国際地域学科の学生を含む多数の東洋大学の学生が参加し、活動に協力してくれました。
From May 8, 2023 to 27th, we hosted 17 students and 1 chaperon from Thompson Rivers University (TRU) in Canada for a 3-week summer program.
Toyo University and TRU established an agreement in 2007 and have been actively conducting student exchanges. In October 2022, 40 students from the Department of Regional Development Studies, Faculty of Global and Regional Studies, stayed at TRU for 1 month as a Short Intensive Program (ShIP).
This time, the acceptance of TRU's short program, which had been postponed for more than 2 years due to the pandemic, was finally realized.
This summer program focuses on the Japanese language, culture and society through classes on Japanese language and culture and fieldwork.
A number of Toyo University students, including those from the Department of Regional Development Studies, participated in the Japanese conversation classes and fieldwork and cooperated with the activities.

また、日本の多様性を深く理解するために、日本列島北部周辺に住む先住民族であるアイヌ民族・文化を理解するためのセッションを設けました。In order to gain a deeper understanding of the diversity of Japan, we also organized a session to understand the Ainu people and culture, the indigenous people living around the northern part of Japan.

更に、プログラム後半には、両大学の学生が参加する異文化理解に関する授業を実施し、両大学の学生がそれぞれの国の独自の文化や多様性について理解する国際交流の場にもなりました。東洋大学では、引き続きショートプログラムを実施し、協定校からの学生を受け入れ、海外大学の学生向けに日本語・日本文化に関する学修の機会を提供するとともに、東洋大学のグローバル化の促進に努めます。
In addition, in the second half of the program, classes on cross-cultural understanding were held in which students from both universities participated, and the session also served as an international exchange opportunity for students from both universities to understand the unique culture and diversity of each country.
Toyo University will continue to conduct short programs, accept students from partner universities, provide opportunities for students from overseas universities to study Japanese language and culture, and promote the globalization of Toyo University.
