Faculty of Letters

Professor Shinobu Yamaguchi
Specialization: Indian and Buddhist Studies
Courses taught in AY2022: Indian and Buddhist Art A/B, History of Tibetan Buddhism

Think deeply, take action, and have your own compass.

There are seven departments at the Faculty of Letters, where students learn philosophy, history, literature, culture, education, and communication. Students’ learning is centered around their specialization. However, students can study the fundamentals of the other departments across the Faculty of Letters’ general courses. Therefore I would like students to use this as an opportunity to broaden the scope of their research. Also, there are many courses for students to develop their culture and thinking. The study in these courses is basic training for creating your own true north for thinking deeply about the problems that will occur around you in the real world and taking action accordingly.
Your time at university is precious, so use it to think carefully about who you are and what kind of life you want. No matter what you come up with, it will be the correct answer for you. Try to have fun while you do this thinking process.

Faculty of Business Administration

Professor Kota Nagashima
Specialization: Marketing
Courses taught in AY2022: Direct Marketing, Service Marketing, Seminar on Service Marketing

Develop the strength to live in an era of uncertainty.

At the Faculty of Business Administration, students learn about the operation of various organizations, focusing on corporations. Students think about business using the various approaches of each department. The Special Management Program (fall semester) has been referred to as “Japan’s most lavish lesson.” Here, we invite prominent guests from the business world, such as chairmen and presidents from famous companies, and ask them about real management issues and their processes for solving these issues. While learning about business administration, students can listen to valuable experiences that will have a great impact on students' career development and way of living.
I want students to develop the ability to think, which is the founding spirit of Toyo University. In the times ahead, we will live in a world without a guidebook, and it will be difficult to know where the problems are, let alone what choices are available. At this time, thinking and the ability to find the relevant information required for your thinking will be critical. I want students to enhance this ability.
