■TOYO SPORTS VISION
In 2016 we developed the “TOYO SPORTS VISION,” which establishes organic relationships between the university and sports under the philosophy of “exploring sports from a philosophical perspective to unite people, society and the world.” This year’s Tokyo Games are one opportunity, and the philosophy will continue even after the Games.
The history of Toyo University and the Olympic and Paralympic Games starts in 1964 with the previous Tokyo Games. At these Games, students from the Toyo University Junior College Department of Tourism were responsible for food tickets and catering services at the Yoyogi Olympic Village, and members of the automobile club assisted with transporting athletes between the Olympic Village and the competition venues. The first Toyo Alumni to participate in the Olympics was Zenji Okuzawa, who ran the men's 3,000 meters steeplechase at the 1964 Tokyo Games. To date, over 30 Toyo Alumni have participated in the Olympics and Paralympics. Many of these alumni went on to win medals. We are also looking forward to the efforts of the Toyo students and alumni who will represent Japan at this year’s Games.
