トップグローバル奨学生のその後

東洋トップグローバル奨学金は、本学の国際化を促進し、世界のリーダーを輩出することを目的に2017年4月入学生から開始され、2021年9月入学生を最後に終了しました。この奨学金を受給し、卒業した学生は総勢179名(さらに2024年度秋学期25名卒業予定)。国際化の最中にあった本学で過ごした4年間の思い出や、卒業後から現在に至るまで、卒業生に聞きました。

Q1　卒業後はどのような仕事をされていますか?

私のキャリアは、正式に卒業する前から始まりました。フエ大学で ESL 教師と広報担当を務めながら、研究者等と協力し、都市計画やインフラ改善、自然災害への強靭性の強化に関するプロジェクトに取り組みましたGINOSで学んだ経験が自信となりました。その後、マーケティングのキャリアをスタートし、マーケティングチームのリーダーにまで成長しました。この他、日本の起業家のベトナム進出を支援する事業も立ち上げました。常に学び続ける自分を誇りに思います。

Q2　東洋大学での学びや経験は現在のキャリアにどのように役立っていますか?

私の東洋大学での時間は、私を学問的にも社会的にも大きく成長させる特別な経験でした。幅広い授業内容に圧倒されましたが、リーダーシップを発揮する課題や、多角的な視点での問題分析、ミニカンファレンスでの議論を通じて現実の課題を体験し、批判的思考力を養いました。特に、SDGsへの意識を高めたことは重要で、ベトナムでSDGsが注目される中、就職市場での強みとなっています。また、課外活動 (TGS*) では多様な仲間と交流し、相違を尊重し、協力の精神を育むことを学びました。TGSの一員として学んだチームワー

Q3　東洋大学での学生生活の良かった点と難しかった点を教えてください。

東洋大学での最大の課題は言語の壁でした。日本語の授業だけでなく、市役所での手続きなど日常生活でも困難に直面しました。書類が全て日本語で書かれていたため、手続きにとても時間がかかりました。その一方で、国際教育センターのサポートが大きな助けとなりました。学業や行政手続きの問題解決に尽力してくれたほか、ベトナムで足止めされた際には迅速にビザ取得を手伝ってくれました。また、学科の先生方も学業だけでなく精神面も支えてくださり、その温かさに感謝しています。このようなサポートのおかげで多くの困難を乗り越えることができました。

The Toyo Top Global Scholarship was launched with the aim of promoting the internationalization of Toyo University and producing global leaders. The first students were admitted from April 2017 and the last group of students joined in Fall 2021. A total of 179 students have graduated from Toyo under this scholarship program, with another 25 scheduled to graduate in Fall 2024. We spoke with graduate about their experiences in the midst of the university’s internationalization efforts and their lives following graduation.

Q1 What have you been doing post-graduation?

My career began even before I officially graduated. At Hue University, I took on dual roles as an ESL teacher and a media collabo-rator, working alongside researchers on projects focused on urban planning, improving infrastructure, and enhancing resilience to natural disasters. The knowledge I gained through GINOS gave me the confidence to con-tribute meaningfully to these efforts. 
Later, I started my career in marketing and advanced to become a marketing team leader. I also launched a business to support Japa-nese entrepreneurs in establishing startups inVietnam. I am proud of my growth and deeply value the mindset of continuous learning.

Q2 How did your studies and experiences at Toyo University help in your current career?

My time at Toyo University was a trans-formative and enriching experience that significantly contributed to my academic and social development. Although initially overwhelmed by the extensive range of courses, I gained valuable skills through assignments that required leadership, multi-perspective analysis, and engaging in debates during miniconferences. These activities allowed me to tackle real-world issues and develop critical thinking, especially through the Liberal Arts curriculum. 
One of the most impactful lessons was raising my awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This has become avital asset in Vietnam, where SDGs are increas-ingly emphasized in the job market. Addition-ally, as a member of the Toyo Gemstone (TGS)*team, I interacted with peers from diverse backgrounds, learning to respect differences and foster collaboration. The teamwork and cooperative spirit I developed through TGS remain integral to my professional life today.

*TGS is a student support team that assists international students in English.

Q3 What were the positive and difficult aspects of student life at Toyo?

One of the biggest challenges I faced at Toyo University was the language barrier.
I struggled not only with Japanese classes but also with daily life tasks, such as completing paperwork at city offices. Since most documents were written entirely in Japanese,  I had to spend a significant amount of time researching to complete official procedures. On the other hand, the support from the International Affairs Office (IAO) was invaluable. They provided essential assistance for both academic and administrative challenges and acted promptly when  I was stuck in Vietnam, helping me secure the necessary visa to return to Tokyo and finish my degree. Additionally, the profes-sors in my department supported not only my academic journey but also my mental wellbeing with their kindness and care. Thanks to such support, I was able to overcome numerous challenges, and for this, I am deeply grateful.
