Participating Universities

Toyo University has concluded agreements with more than 250 universities overseas and is expanding the number of students studying and accepting students from abroad. In this project, we will promote the project in cooperation with the following universities.

Founded in 1841 as a teacher education institution, York St John University has evolved into a four-year public college that offers courses and lectures in a diverse range of fields. In 2010, the university launched its Japanese language program, which currently boasts an enrollment of approximately 140 students. To date, 33 students from Toyo University have participated in York St John's long-term study abroad program.

York St John University is situated in the north of England, in the mid-sized city of York. The city is home to numerous historical landmarks, including the iconic Yorkminster. The university's campus is centrally located within the city, providing students with a tranquil learning environment steeped in European history and culture. It takes roughly two hours to travel from York to London by train.

The region offers stunning natural scenery along with abundant shopping and dining options, allowing visitors to experience diverse cultures. Curtin University, established in 1986, is the largest state university in Western Australia. Named after Australia's 14th prime minister, the university offers a wide range of academic programs across various fields. Additionally, Curtin University has a rich history in teaching the Japanese language, with its Japanese language program launched in 1967. Currently, there are approximately 200 students studying Japanese at the university.

The university is located in the quiet residential area of Bentley, just a 20-minute bus ride from central Perth. The campus offers a green and open atmosphere, providing an ideal environment for students to focus on their studies. Moreover, the university has put in place a robust support system that offers various services and facilities to ensure students have a comfortable college life while also excelling in their academic pursuits.

Busan University of Foreign Studies, a private university founded in 1981, currently has an enrollment of approximately 10,000 students. The university offers a comprehensive Japanese language program that was launched in 1982, attracting around 800 students who study Japanese as a major or minor.

Busan University has established partner agreements with numerous schools in Japan, including Toyo University. The university's campus is located in Namsam-dong and is just a five-minute school bus ride from Namsam Station on the No. 1 Subway Line.

The campus is relatively new, having been relocated in 2014, and the buildings, including dormitories, are clean and modern. The International Exchange Center has a friendly and helpful staff that speaks English, Chinese, and Japanese, creating a welcoming environment for students to seek consultations and support.

The university has established partner agreements with over 15 universities in Japan and offers some classes in Japanese, demonstrating its extensive exchange with Japan. Inha University's campus is about 30 minutes by car from Incheon International Airport and approximately an hour away from central Seoul by public transportation, providing a comfortable living environment for students.

Srinakharinwirot university launched its Japanese language program in 2002, and currently has around 190 students studying the language.

Although located in Bangkok's bustling business district, the university's main campus boasts a large plot of land and provides ample opportunities to experience Southeast Asia's culture and economy. Additionally, the Ongkharak Campus, located about an hour and a half away by car, features on-site amenities such as a bank, bookstore, and hotel, creating a highly convenient environment for students and visitors alike.

Japanese language education at Chiang Mai University began in 1977, and currently, approximately 160 students are studying Japanese.

The university's School of Humanities is home to a Japanese department and a Japanese Research Center, playing a pivotal role in Japanese language education for northern Thailand. The department has welcomed a total of seven long-term study abroad students from Toyo University.

Located in the city of Chiang Mai, the university offers a safe and comfortable environment for students, with low crime rates and easy access to a consulate and a general hospital.

Darma Persada University (Indonesia)

Darma Persada University, located approximately 20 km from the center of Jakarta, enrolls approximately 3,800 students. This private university was founded in 1986 through the cooperation between the Indonesia-Japan Friendship Association (PPIJ) and the Association of Indonesian Former Japan Exchange Students (PERSADA) to express gratitude to the two countries. The former Japan exchange students took a leadership role in the school’s founding, which is an exceedingly rare occurrence on a global scale – a university founded to utilize overseas experiences in their home countries.

Darma Persada is one of the world's most prominent pro-Japan universities,, and since the 2013 school year, all students are required to take Japanese language classes. The university launched its Japanese language program in 1986, and there are currently 876 students studying Japanese. After partnering with Toyo University, Darma Persada University has hosted many sessions of International Students Meetings (ISM) and other events, with most interactions taking place online. However, we expect more active exchange in the future through in-person study abroad opportunities.

Its Japanese language program, established in 1996, attracts over 600 students seeking a comprehensive understanding of Japanese language and culture. Through partnership with Uzbekistan State World Languages University, the Faculty of Letters, Toyo University has conducted Japanese language education training in Uzbekistan offering valuable experience for students from both sides.

With the anticipated conclusion of the pandemic, the stage is set for an exciting revival of active exchange programs, including study abroad opportunities.

The University of Florence has its origins in the Florentine republic decided to establish in 1321 and reestablished in 1859 as the University of Higher Vocational Training, it is a relatively young university in Italy.
Florence itself became the cultural center of the Renaissance in the 15th century, when the city was once under the rule of the Medici family, Today, the city center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site as the "Historic Centre of Florence" and was named European Capital of Culture in 1986, providing excellent conditions for academic pursuits.

Amsterdam is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Europe, and since English is widely spoken, there is no difficulty in living in Amsterdam even if you do not speak Dutch.
Both on and off campus, you will be able to meet people from various countries and receive the latest research and education. Since the signing of the agreement in 2014, student exchanges programs are the main focus. It has now grown to include seven undergraduate and postgraduate schools, including the School of International Relations, the School of Business, and the School of Art and Visual Design and Architecture. The university has the longest-standing Japanese language course among Georgia’s educational institutions, and many of the Japanese speakers in Georgia are said to have attended this university.

Toyo University, a fully accredited private university located in the heart of Japan's capital, Tokyo, is a beacon of educational excellence. Having been founded in 1887 by the renowned philosopher Enryo Inoue as a private school of philosophy, it had grown to become one of the largest universities in Japan, boasting 14 faculties, 48 departments (as of March 2023), and a student population of more than 30,000.
