The Department of Media and Communications offers various courses across three fields: information science, socio-informatics, and mass communication.  Based on their fields of interest and in consultation with faculty members, students can determine research areas that they wish to study over four years in the department.
In addition, the curriculum of the Department of Media and Communications offers various practice courses to allow students to acquire practical skills. For students intending to engage in the information industry, practice courses such as “Information Network and Practice” and “Database and Practice,” are available, and for those who intend to engage in the mass communication industry, “News Writing” and “Video Production” are offered. Through these courses, students can acquire professional and high-level skills that can be used in the working world.

Study Process at the Department of Media and Communications

During the period from enrollment to graduation, students acquire knowledge and skills about media and communications systematically in sequential order, from basic to advanced level. In their first and second year, students take basic courses and seminars on media and communications, and then acquire theory in these areas along with a wide range of knowledge on “Multi-Cultural Communication,” “Studies on Mass Culture,” and “Physical Communication.”
In their years of taking specialized courses, students are able to study functions and effects of mass communication through courses such as “Broadcasting Media,” “Principles of Newspaper Journalism,” “Advertising,” “Public Opinion,” and “Principles of Journalism”; as well as study various characteristics of information in society through courses such as “Lecture on Disaster Media and Communication” and “Media and Communication Studies on Environmental Issues”; and acquire knowledge and skills to process information through courses such as “Information Analysis,” “Information and Languages,” and “Mathematics for Information Technology.”

 入学から卒業までのあいだに、メディアコミュニケーションについての知識と技能を、初級から上級まで順を追って体系的に学習します。1・2年次を通してメディアコミュ ニケーション学の基礎および演習を履修し、その上でメディアコミュニケーション学の理論と「多文化コミュニケーション論」「大衆文化論」「身体コミ ュニケーション論」などの幅広い知識の吸収をはかります。
専門課程では「放送メディア論」「新聞メディア論」「広告論」「世論」 「ジャーナリズム論」などでマス・コミュニケーションの機能や効果を学び、「災害情報論」「環境メディア論」などで社会における多様な情報の特性を学び、「情報分析論」「情報と言語」「情報数理」などを通して情報を扱うための知識と技術を修得します。
