孫 涛（SUN Tao）
-Brief Summary of Career（Profile）-
I came to Japan in 2013 to pursue my dreams in academics. Before moving to Tokyo, I spent most of my time in Hokkaido prefecture and received both my master and PhD degrees from Hokkaido university. My teaching experience mainly covers foreign language education (Japanese, English and Mandarin) and statistics of social science.
I have a wide range of research interests focusing on tourists’ consuming behaviors and tourism destination management. Detailed research topics I have worked on so far are as follows:
- Tourists’ online information searching behaviors (e.g. the usage of OTA and SNS)
- Tourists’ risk perception and perceived travel constraints
- Post-COVID destination image recovery
- Social media influencer (SMI) marketing for tourism destinations
- Outbound Chinese tourists’ travel psyches and behaviors.
My recent research mainly sheds light on the marketing impact of social media influencer (SMI) on tourism destinations, in particular, I am probing the role of SMIs may have played during the recovery of tourism business in post-COVID-19 era. Another new direction I have embarked on is the analysis of inter-cultural communication between Chinese tourists and Japanese local people and hosts.

- Basic Seminar of Tourism Studies (観光基礎演習)
In this seminar, I will particularly lay more emphasis on basic academic training, including information literacy, information/material collection, English writing, and presentation.

-Message for Students-
University time is a crucial period in your life to form your world view. To make the best of a meaningful university life, I would like to share two things that I think you need to keep in mind.
The first thing is to stay curious about anything you encounter and do not forget to ask “why?”. Curiosity may drive you to find the things that you really love, which may further pave the way for your future career development. The second thing is to set up little goals for each stage of studying. Clear goals can navigate your study in the right direction and help you to accurately position yourself throughout your university life.
With a curious heart and clear goals, I believe you will have a wonderful journey at Toyo university.
