Research Center for Creative Management

Outline (History) of Research Center for Creative Management

The Research Center for Creative Management (Chief Director of the Center: Prof. Yasuhiro Ogura ,f Faculty of Business Administration) marked the 4th year in 2012 since it started activities under the research theme of "Creating management capability launched from Japan and the new Japanese way of management development for top and middle managers", in the wake of being selected as the Grant-aided Program for the Strategic Research Foundation for Private Universities in FY2009. From the viewpoint of practical management, the Research Center has worked on creation of management capability launched from Japan and establishment of development for top and middle managers in the new Japanese fashion, through practical research on such management development.

Activities and Features

In the Research Center, research activities are conducted by three study groups. The creative management study group reveals the principle of creating management capability launched from Japan, through communication with domestic and overseas business managers, with the aim of creating management capability including organizational, financial, and technological capabilities. The top managers education group reveals the principle of development for top managers, through examining issues concerning management policies of Japanese companies, such as management philosophy and vision of modern companies, CSR (corporate social responsibility), corporate governance, M&A (mergers and acquisitions), MBO (management buyout), venture, and dividend policies. The middle managers education study group mainly studies about middle managers (including division managers and supervisors) in order to clarify the management principle of education for middle managers, by developing education for fostering middle managers including marketing, human resource, accounting, finance, and information systems.

Research Achievements

Achievements of research activities in FY2011 are as follows: At first, the international symposium was held with the theme of "Top managers and management in the age of globalization". In this meaningful symposium, domestic and overseas researchers and corporate managers clarified problems of "Japanese way of management" from the viewpoint of comparative management. The Research Center could also publish "Study on top and middle managers" (Gakubunsha Co. Ltd.) as an intermediate product. On the basis of those research achievements, the Research Center intends to establish a "practical management model of creating management capability launched from Japan and of development for top and middle managers in the new Japanese way". In addition, the Research Center held regular symposiums (two sessions) and some workshops, implemented surveys on domestic and overseas companies, and published the annals "Study on creative management" (No. 8).
