A leader of public opinion during the latter half of the Meiji period, Inoue Enryo was a key figure in three important processes of Japan's modern history of ideas: the establishment of academic philosophy, the emergence of modern Buddhism, and the permeation of the emperor ideology. Pursuing projects such as Mystery Studies, world travels, and the Temple Garden of Philosophy he stands out as a highly original individual. The journal invites papers on all aspects of Inoue Enryo's life and works. Criteria of acceptance are (A) correctness and novelty of historical research, or (B) validity or originality of the reconstruction, interpretation, or application of Inoue Enryo's philosophy.
