Mr Mohamed Al-Kindi, an engineer of Sultan Qaboos University, Oman, participated in the Special Internship Programme organised by the Bio-Nano Electronics Research Centre, Toyo University from 25 November to 5 December, 2014.
Note that the Bio-Nano Electronics Centre/Graduate School of Interdisciplinary New Science and the College of Science, Sultan Qaboos University, exchanged the MoU in the collaborative research and educational programmes on 9th October 2014.

Please introduce yourself and your university.

My name is Mohamed Al-Kindi. I am from Sultanate of Oman. I work as a biomedical scientist in Sultan Qaboos University, college of medicine and health sciences, department of pathology, electron microscopy unit. Sultan Qaboos University is the only government university of Oman and considered as a leading university in the country. The university consist of these colleges medicine, engineering, science, agriculture, arts, commerce and political sciences, law and education. In addition it has different support and scientific centers.

What is your recent work?

I am involved mainly in operating SEM and TEM for diagnostic and research purposes. I also get involved in teaching medical laboratory science students on dealing with samples and instruments in EM.

Science requires hard work and makes me understand different phenomena in depth. I like science also as there are many challenges in trying getting comprehensive understanding on the techniques you study.

What did you study during your stay at the BNERC?

During my stay in Bio-Nano Electronics Research Center I could learn several topics in electron microscopy especially scanning electron microscopy in terms of machine operation or sample preparation. I had many questions in my mind before I come and could discuss in details with the experts in this center who are so helpful and highly cooperative. I was also introduced to new topics which I was not familiar with such as Raman system, X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Auger electron spectroscopy, lithography ... ect.

What are your dreams and goals regarding future research?

My dream is to do my masters and PhD degrees and become a strong researcher and able to publish a lot.
