Important: Strengthening Measures against the Infection Spread of Novel Coronavirus

Entry into Japan for new entrants from all countries and regions will not be permitted (until the end of January 2021)

*In the event that the visa (also applies to the ‘International Student’ visa) issued under the bilateral framework of ‘Residence Track’, the entry permit to Japan is only given to Chinese and Korean nationals among the countries/regions listed (as of January 9th 2021).

 

For entry rules into Japan from countries/regions other than China and Korea, please read (1) as shown below.

 

New entry into Japan for foreign nationals (including mid-to long-term residents) 

  1. In the event that the visa has been issued under the measure that enables new entry into Japan from all countries/regions.


    (For countries/regions under the warning on infectious disease level 3)

     Unable to enter into Japan from the January 4th 2021. A new visa application is not accepted.

     

    (For countries/regions under the warning on infectious disease level 2)

    Those whose visas have been already issued are allowed to enter into Japan.

    However, a new visa application is accepted under a stricter screening procedure therefore the visa issuance will be unlikely proceeded for the time being.

    *Please confirm by checking on the Japanese Embassy homepage in your home country/region, as there are some authorities where the visa issuance service is terminated.

The government scholars (MEXT) are allowed to enter into Japan regardless of the above (1) and (2) rules.
The government scholars (MEXT) are not allowed to enter into Japan from January 21st 00:00 am (Japan Time) (as of January 16th 2021)
