Temporary Leave from Japan
Temporary Leave and Special Re-entry Permit:
If you are an international student with a Student Visa and intend to leave Japan temporarily, you can do so under the special re-entry permission system as long as it is during long holidays such as summer holidays and you are not required to obtain re-entry permission. However, you must have a valid passport and Residence Card, and must re-enter Japan within your period of stay. Also, when departing Japan, please present your Residence Card at the departure counter at the airport, and check the box indicating that "I am leaving Japan temporarily and will return" on the Embarkation and Disembarkation Card (ED Card) for Re-entrants. Please note that if your period of stay expires while you are outside Japan, you will not be able to enter Japan and will have to obtain a new status of residence.
For the special re-entry permission and the Embarkation and Disembarkation Card (information related to the ED Card for Re-entrants), please see the following Immigration Services Agency of Japan website.
