(3) Scholarship amount, etc.
The Toyo Top Global Scholarships consist of two components: exemption from payment of enrollment fees for the shortest length of the course of study (in principle, four years) and payment of a monthly stipend of 150,000 yen. Recipients will not be required to repay the scholarship after their graduation.
Note 1: Each year the university will examine each recipient’s academic performance at the time that he or she advances to the next year. If the university finds that the recipient has not met specified scholastic performance standards, his or her eligibility as a scholarship recipient will be suspended the following year. During the one year that eligibility is suspended, the recipient will be required to pay the enrollment fee for that academic year and he or she will not receive the monthly stipend of 150,000 yen. However, if, in the following year, the recipient satisfies the specified scholastic performance standards when advancing to the next year, his or her eligibility as a scholarship recipient will be reinstated. Accordingly, the recipient will again be exempt from paying the enrollment fee for the following academic year and be permitted to receive the monthly stipend of 150,000 yen.
Note 2: First-year students must reside in a dormitory specified by the university to receive the monthly stipend of 150,000 yen. The stipend will be paid after subtracting the dormitory’s fee from 150,000 yen.
Note 3: If a recipient will take leave of classes, he or she will be required to pay the specified expense, and payment of the monthly stipend of 150,000 yen will cease. Note that, as a rule, an international student taking leave from classes will lose eligibility to stay in Japan and must therefore return to his or her home country.
