Message from the Course Chair

A course for nationally qualified graduates that is based on the concept of “work” that meets societal needs

This course aims to nurture, under the principle of “advanced practical business administration,” business leaders and managers who can respond to management systems that are undergoing globalization, computerization, and diversification, as well as advanced professionals such as Registered Small-and-Medium Enterprise Management Consultant and Tax Accountant. With classes being conducted on weekday evenings and Saturdays, the course appeals to working adults who wish to earn a Master’s or Doctoral degree while working in businesses and other organizations.

The course has three divisions: "Entrepreneur/Management Training division," "Accounting Finance Specialist Training division," and "Concentration in SME Consultant Certification."

"Entrepreneur/Management Training division" trains advanced professionals and covers a wide range of fields, from management philosophy and corporate governance to group management, small businesses, Japanese style corporate management, and NPO theory.

"Accounting Finance Specialist Training division" offers common courses on the basic elements of accounting and finance and provides education for chief financial officers (CFOs), tax accountants, securities analysts, and investment fund managers; it also incorporates training for the examination for Certified Public Accountants. In April 2017, "Tax Accountant Training course" specialized in the training for Tax Accountant has been started based on the University's experience of producing many exempts of examination subjects. In this program we organize research/ education (thesis advising) system to enable students to receive subjects exemptions.

To study in "Concentration in SME Consultant Certification," students are required to have passed the first-stage of the Small-and-Medium Enterprise Management Consultant Examination. During the two-year period of the course, students can acquire both a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and certification as a Registered Small-and-Medium Enterprise Management Consultant. In 2010, the course was approved by the Minister for Economy, Trade and Industry under Article 35, Paragraph 1 of the Ministerial Ordinance on the Registration and Examination of Small-and-Medium Enterprise Consultant Registration and Examination, and a large number of our students pass the examination every year.

Overview of the Course

In line with accounting standards being integrated and the diversification of finance, the course has been established to meet the need for management skills that can respond to such changes. "Entrepreneur/Management Training division," "Accounting Finance Specialist Training divisions" and "Concentration in SME Consultant Certification" are primarily designed for working adults. Under the principle of “advanced practical business management,” these divisions have nurtured business leaders and managers who are capable of responding to new management systems, as well as highly skilled professionals who can deal with new fields of accounting, tax accounting, and finance.

Students in "Concentration in SME Consultant Certification"  can acquire Master of Business Administration and be qualified as Small- and Medium Enterprise Management Consultant in two years. One of the most sought after qualifications among company employees in their forties and above—the company “brains”—is the “Small-and-Medium Enterprise Management Consultant” qualification. The examination is extremely difficult, with only 20% of examinees passing the first stage and only 20% of these successful examinees passing the second stage, thus giving a final pass rate of 3 to 5%. This is because management consultants working with small- and medium-sized businesses cannot acquire the necessary skills on the strength of formal knowledge alone. At our Graduate School, we believe that true knowledge can be attained only when practical experience in the concerned field is connected with theory. Therefore, the course focuses on practical learning based on real-world perspectives and in-service experiences. It provides a total of five practical training and in-field experience sessions. The curriculum offers students opportunities to visit businesses in person and occasionally work with the people there, thus enabling them to gain firsthand understanding of the work that small- and medium-sized businesses do and the business minds they employ.
