A course for nationally qualified graduates that is based on the concept of “a professional career” that meets societal needs
This course aims to nurture, under the principle of “advanced practical business administration,” business leaders and managers who can respond to management systems that are undergoing globalization, computerization, and diversification, as well as advanced professionals such as Registered Small-and-Medium Enterprise Management Consultants and Tax Accountants. With classes being conducted on weekday evenings and Saturdays, the course appeals to working adults who wish to earn a Master’s or Doctoral degree while working in businesses and other organizations.
The course has three divisions: “Entrepreneur/Management Training division,” “Accounting Finance Specialist Training division,” and “Concentration in SME Consultant Certification.”
The “Entrepreneur/Management Training division” trains advanced professionals and covers a wide range of fields, from Small Business Management, Management Strategy, Business Environment, and Corporate Governance to Management Philosophy, Group Management, Japanese style corporate management, and Non-Profit Organizations.
The “Accounting Finance Specialist Training division” offers common courses on the basic elements of accounting and finance and provides education for chief financial officers (CFOs), tax accountants, securities analysts, and investment fund managers; it also incorporates training for the examination for Certified Public Accountants. In April 2017, the “Tax Accountant Training course” specialized in providing training for Tax Accountants commenced based on the University’s experience of producing many examination subject exemptions. In this program, we organize a research/education (thesis advising) system to enable students to receive subject exemptions.
To study “Concentration in SME Consultant Certification,” students are required to have passed the first-stage of the Small-and-Medium Enterprise Management Consultant Examination. During the two-year period of the course, students can acquire both a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and certification as a Registered Small-and-Medium Enterprise Management Consultant. In 2010, the course was approved by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry under Article 35, Paragraph 1 of the Ministerial Ordinance on the Registration and Examination of Small-and-Medium Enterprise Management Consultants, with a large number of our students passing the examination every year. The course has also been designated as one that is eligible for the Training and Education Benefits System (specialized practical training) of the Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare since April 2020. Students who meet certain requirements will receive back part of the admission and tuition costs that they have paid.
Overview of the Course
Amid the rapidly changing business environment, the course has been established to meet the needs for management skills that can respond to such changes. The “Entrepreneur/Management Training division,” “Concentration in SME Consultant Certification,” and “Accounting Finance Specialist Training division” are primarily designed for working adults. Under the principle of “advanced practical business management,” these divisions have nurtured business leaders and managers who are capable of responding to new management systems, as well as highly skilled professionals who can deal with new fields in accounting, tax accounting, and finance.
Students in the “Concentration in SME Consultant Certification” can acquire a Master of Business Administration and be qualified as a Small-and-Medium Enterprise Management Consultant in two years. One of the most sought after qualifications among company employees in their forties and above—the company “brains”—is the “Small-and-Medium Enterprise Management Consultant” qualification. The examination is extremely difficult, with only 20% of examinees passing the first stage, and a mere 20% of these successful examinees passing the second stage, thus yielding a final pass rate of 3 to 5%. This is because management consultants working with small- and medium-sized businesses cannot acquire the necessary skills on the strength of formal knowledge alone. At our Graduate School, we believe that true knowledge can be attained only when practical experience in the concerned field is connected with theory. Therefore, the course focuses on practical learning based on real-world perspectives and in-service experiences. It provides a total of five practical training and in-field experience sessions in two years. The curriculum offers students opportunities to visit businesses in person and occasionally work with the people there, thus enabling them to gain firsthand understanding of the work that small- and medium-sized businesses do and the business minds they employ.
