Goals in human resource development and other aims in education and research

[Master’s Program]
(1) Objectives of Human Resources Development:
In this age of drastic reform, when focus is being placed on globalization, the shift to service industries, and the creation of innovation, the program aims to foster highly skilled professionals who can study advanced level theory and practice in business administration and marketing under the principle of“ advanced practical business administration,” and contribute to social development by utilizing their research achievements.
(2) Objectives of Education and Research:
Knowledge and Skills Students Are Expected to Develop: The program aims to allow students to acquire the ability to think logically through research bolstered by an advanced level of theory and specialized knowledge in business administration and marketing, and advanced practical capabilities, including a wide range of techniques in applying theories, analyzing problems, and formulating strategies.

[Doctoral Program]
(1) Objectives of Human Resources Development:
Under the principle of “advanced practical business administration,” the program aims to develop highly professional researchers with a high level of theoretically bolstered, practical and internationally effective management capabilities and the ability to conduct original research.
(2) Objectives of Education and Research:
Knowledge and Skills Students Are Expected to Develop:The program aims to allow students to acquire advanced research ability to create new knowledge, characterized by a high level of practical effectiveness, originality and expertise, concerning global problems related to business administration and other related fields.

 

Policy for Completion Certification, Degree Conferment (Diploma Policy)

[Master’s Program]
The Course of Business Administration and Marketing will award a Master’s degree to students who have acquired the following kinds of expertise and abilities, have satisfied the requirements, including the specified duration of study and number of credits, and have passed the examination of the Master’s thesis or of research achievements on a specific subject (research paper), and the final examination.
(1) A high level of discipline-based expertise in business administration and marketing
(2) Ability to pursue the essence without prejudice and bias and deeply consider such essence in a logical and systematic manner
(3) Practical ability to address globalization and the shift to service industries in society and apply theories about business administration and marketing
(4) Ability to offer creative and effective proposals based on data and sources in an era of drastic reform, when focus is being placed on the creation of innovation

[Doctoral Program]
The Course of Business Administration and Marketing e will award a doctoral degree to students who have acquired the following kinds of expertise and abilities, have satisfied duration-of-study requirements, and have passed the examination of the doctoral thesis and the final examination:
(1) Values that motivate them to conduct socially valuable research in a fair way, and a sense of mission to contribute to the development of society through research
(2) Ability to appropriately analyze and explore problems based on data and sources as an independent researcher, and a spirit of inquiry that motivates them to pursue the essence in a logical and systematic manner
(3) Practical ability to create new knowledge using a distinguished level of research abilities in business administration and marketing in any social field

 

Policy for Curriculum Development and Implementation (Curriculum Policy)

[Master’s Program]
(1) Curriculum design / Contents and methods of education
To achieve the goals mentioned in the Diploma Policy, the Course of Business Administration and Marketing will systematically develop a curriculum with an appropriate combination of “coursework” and “research work.” The courses comprise Special Lecture courses aimed at allowing students to acquire specialized knowledge and theory about business administration and marketing, and Seminar courses aimed at allowing students to acquire the abilities to think logically and to take practical action. A configuration of various courses dealing with basic to applied fields in business administration and marketing enables students to acquire the ability to apply theories to their actual problems. Research advising is provided mainly by each student’s academic supervisor and co supervisors in collaboration with all other instructors of the course. Students can receive thorough research advice concerning the entire process of their research, from the basics of research methods to how to write academic papers in line with their research theme.
(2) Assessment of academic achievement
Academic performance will be evaluated objectively and strictly, using the following procedures and methods.
① Students’ academic achievement in courses is assessed by the course instructors according to prescribed grading criteria using methods that are described in the course syllabuses.
② For research advising, the achievement level of students in their research process is assessed by an organization formed by research advisers and other faculty members in the course through the thesis report meeting, etc., based on the prescribed research advising plan.
③ Students’ master’s theses are assessed according to the prescribed thesis review criteria under the prescribed review system.

[Doctoral Program]
(1) Curriculum design / Contents and methods of education
To achieve the goals mentioned in the Diploma Policy, the Course of Business Administration and Marketing will systematically develop a curriculum with an appropriate combination of “coursework” and “research work.” The curriculum comprises a configuration of Special Research courses in various fields aimed at dealing with an advanced level of specialized knowledge and theory concerning business administration and marketing. Students can receive thorough research advice concerning the entire process of their research, from the basics of research methods to how to write academic papers in line with their research theme. A combination of course work and research work allows students to develop the distinguished ability to conduct original research, which is necessary for them to engage in advanced research activities in an independent way.
(2) Assessment of academic achievement

[Master’s Program]
The Course of Business Administration and Marketing will accept students with the following qualities and abilities by conducting a variety of examinations, including a written exam, an oral exam, an interview and a screening of application materials, according to applicants’ characteristics:
(1) Basic knowledge of business administration and marketing, and abilities necessary to conduct surveys and research
(2) Motivation to strive for solutions to problems using specialized knowledge, and having a sufficient level of flexibility to devote efforts toward self-enlightenment and integrating other people’s views
(3) A spirit of inquiry into things, and the intention to contribute to global and local communities
(4) Aspiration to serve as a researcher, educator, or highly skilled professional in academia, business or other organizations in Japan and/or abroad in the future

[Doctoral Program]
The Course of Business Administration and Marketing will accept students with the following qualities and abilities by conducting a variety of examinations, including a written exam, an oral exam, an interview and a screening of application materials, according to applicants’ characteristics:
(1) A high level of specialized knowledge of business administration and marketing, and abilities necessary to conduct surveys and research
(2) Motivation to strive for solutions to social problems, such as in globalization and the shift to service industries, using specialized knowledge, and a sufficient level of flexibility to devote efforts toward self-enlightenment and integrating other people’s views
(3) Intention of further pursuing an advanced level of discipline-based original research concerning business administration and marketing from a global perspective
(4) Aspiration to serve as a leading researcher at educational and research institutions, companies or various organizations in Japan and/or abroad in the future
