Regional Studies
(Master’s thesis)
A master’s thesis must satisfy all of the following standards.
1. Academic and social contribution of the thesis
The relevant thesis should make an academic and social contribution in the fields of regional
development studies and international tourism studies.
2. Absorption of the results of previous studies
The relevant thesis should fully absorb the results of previous studies and properly use them, and
should offer new findings in the relevant area.
3. Originality
The relevant thesis should show the full originality of the relevant student who has submitted the
thesis.
4. Completeness of the thesis
The relevant thesis should reach a high degree of perfection, and should be supported by coherent
logic.

(Research paper)
Research Papers based on practical survey and study projects focused on specific academic
issues are reviewed according to the following standards:

A research paper must satisfy all following standards 1 to 3:
1. The paper should clearly identify academic issues, be supported by coherent logic, and
appropriately use methods (surveys, analyses, forecasts, etc.) for the research project.
2. The project deliverables should be original (surveys, analyses, forecast models, etc.).
3. The paper should be presented in an appropriate and organized structure.

[Course of Regional Development Studies] Only for students enrolled in or before AY 2019
A research paper must satisfy all following standards 1 to 4:
1. Social contribution of the paper
The paper should make a social contribution in the fields of global and regional studies and
regional development studies.
2. Application of the results of previous studies
The paper should fully apply the results of previous studies and properly use them.
3. Provision of new practical findings
The paper should offer totally new findings from a practical perspective.
4. Completeness of the paper
The paper should reach a high degree of perfection, and should be supported by coherent logic.

Review criteria for a doctoral degree thesis(KOU)

At Toyo University, a doctoral degree thesis (KOU) is rigorously reviewed according to the
following criteria.

doctoral degree thesis.
2. Academic and social contribution of the thesis
The relevant thesis should make an academic and social contribution in the fields of regional
development studies and international tourism studies.

The relevant thesis should fully absorb the results of previous studies and properly use them,
and should offer new findings in the relevant area.

Review criteria for a doctoral degree thesis(OTSU)

At Toyo University, a doctoral degree thesis (OTSU) is rigorously reviewed according to the
following criteria.

1. The review criteria shall be pursuant to the review criteria for a doctoral degree thesis (KOU).
2. A public hearing is to be held to use the results as references to make the pass-fall judgment.
