2.Toyo Global Leader(TGL)Program

2-1. Outline of Toyo Global Leader Program

Toyo Global Leader (TGL) Program aims to prepare Toyo University students to be globally competent to be able to play active roles on the international stage, by reinforcing the three elements of “English language skills that enable communicating effectively in an intercultural environment,”“ability to create cultural value” and “ability to solve problems in an intercultural environment.” In line with these objectives, specific requirements for certification are defined for each rank: Gold, Silver and Bronze. Students who meet the requirements of any one of the ranks will be certified as Toyo Global Leaders.

 Certification requirements are specified for each rank, as shown below.

(1) English proficiency

Whether this requirement is met is determined based on your scores on English proficiency tests: TOEIC® (public test and IP test), TOEFL iBT®, TOEFL ITP®, and IELTS™ (TOEFL iBT®, TOEFL ITP®, and IELTS™ scores will each be converted to a TOEIC® score).
Only scores from exams taken while in university will be accepted.

(2) Earning credits from subjects taught in a foreign language

Credits earned from subjects taught in a foreign language and foreign language subjects offered in basic education are acceptable.
Credits earned from study abroad and overseas internship programs are also acceptable.

(3) Writing a graduation thesis or other paper in a foreign language

To fulfil this requirement, the student must submit one of the following. Official written approval by his/her academic advisor is required for a) and b).

a. An abstract (English) of his/her graduation thesis written following the specified format or his/her graduation thesis written in English.
b. An academic paper submitted as course work written in a language other than Japanese.
* For international students: an academic paper written in a second language including Japanese.
c. An academic paper written in English on a topic specified by the Center for Global Education and Exchange.

(4) Study abroad or internship

Study abroad and internship programs involving overseas activities for more than three consecutive weeks are acceptable for this requirement.
In addition to programs offered by the University, programs sponsored by external organizations may be acceptable depending on the content of the activities.
It doesn’t matter whether academic credits have been granted or not.

(5) Overseas activities

Overseas activities for more than one consecutive week, such as study abroad, practical training, internship and volunteer activities, which do not fall under the category of activities mentioned in (4) above, are acceptable.
In addition to programs offered by the University, programs sponsored by an external organization may be acceptable depending on the content of the activities. It doesn’t matter whether academic credits have been granted or not.

(6) Toyo Global Leader Camp

This requirement is deemed satisfied if you participate in a “Global Leader Camp” organized by the University (or participate as a member of the operation team).

(7) Toyo Global (TG) Points

If you participate in international exchange activities (study abroad, internship, volunteer, international symposium, etc.) and/or extracurricular language seminars in Japan and abroad, points will be awarded depending on the duration of the activities.
