With the falling birthrates, the environment surrounding children has been changing drastically. To solve various issues concerning children, families, communities, and government policies, a wide range of specialized knowledge is required. The Social Work and Child Care Course in the Department of Human Care and Support offers opportunities to study about not only childcare but also other related fields of children’s social welfare. The Course provides students with necessary training for national qualification exams while cultivating social work abilities to support children, families, and communities in the mental health care and the child-rearing environment. The aim is to help students become "independent mature persons" who are capable of solving issues to support children based on the deep understanding of their feelings and developments.
In the Social Work and Child Care Course, students study widely and deeply about the current issues concerning children, including child abuse, availability of certified nurseries, and child poverty. The Course offers various classes where students learn how to find solutions regarding those issues so that children can grow happily and families have appropriate support while acquiring deeper insights about childcare and child-rearing support. The curriculum is organized to give students all the required training to be fully qualified as professionals with such qualifications as the Childcare Qualification and Kindergarten First Type Teaching Certificate. Students also organize their individual curriculum to become eligible to take national examinations for becoming a Certified Social Worker.
The Social Work and Child Care Course provides students with necessary academic support to acquire the following qualifications with an aim to support children and families in a society with declining birthrates:
