In 1961, a competition was held by the Toyo University Graduates Association to create lyrics for the current "school fight song." Yoshio Katsu, Shinnosuke Owari, and Kazuo Yamamoto (all graduates) served as judges, and first year student at the Faculty of Sociology, Tetsuro Saito, won the competition. The lyrics were revised by Yoshio Katsu, and the music was composed by Michizo Kobayashi, of the Victor Company of Japan. This song was announced at a university festival and became popular among the students. It continues to be sung during sports competitions to this day.
