Studying abroad is life changing. Graduate school is the best place to learn practical, technical research techniques.

Q. Why did you decided to study abroad in Japan?

My research focuses mainly on bio-nanotechnology. I was keenly aware of the necessity of an international perspective in order to take my research to the next level. After considering a variety of aspects, I decided that studying in Japan was my best option. I felt that the advanced technology of Japan would certainly enable me to acquire high-level skills.

Q. Why did you select Toyo University Graduate School?

When using the internet to search for a list of nano research institutions, I found the Toyo University, Bio-Nano Electronics Research Center on a list of 13 outstanding nano-technology centers selected by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. That’s one reason why I selected the graduate school..

Q. What was your research theme when you were at graduate school?

My research project was the optimization, generation and evaluation of electrospun nanofibers. My project began with composing nano-composites (carbon nanotubes and biopolymer). I then explored the possibilities for efficient use of bio-polymeric nanofibers in biomedical applications. Ultimately, I created fluorescence nanofiber through research in quantum dots.

Q.Why did you began research in this field?

Originally, I was interested in bionanotechnology. While conducting research, my interested shifted to biomedical application. I felt that it was an outstanding opportunity to construct a new medical platform by fusing biotechnology and nano-technology in a new field.

Q. How did you learn and grow at graduate school?

In addition to research techniques, I was able to learn the ability to complete research on my own-everything from schedule management to analysis methods and data. I also was afforded many valuable experiences, including learning the fundamentals of writing papers and presenting at scientific conferences. Cooperative researchers constantly supported me in many aspects. The many discussions I had with my colleagues regarding my interests and passion helped me to grow into my ideal self. I spent hours conducting experiments, working on my research theme, developing my ideas and having many discussions with my colleagues and professors. They helped me when I was struggling alone, but they never treated me any differently than anyone else. All of my experiences were the product of studying abroad, the experience led to a change in the way I view things and taught me a great deal. Studying abroad is life changing.

Q. What kind of work are you currently doing?

Currently, I work as a researcher at the National University of Singapore. I’m involved in developing electrospun nanofibers and nanomaterials for environmental and biomedical applications. Here, I am one of the main researchers and am entrusted with important projects. I am also involved in biomedical therapeutic projects. The skills I cultivated research practices and knowledge from my graduate school days are extremely helpful. This positive experience in my research career from TOYO inspired me to seek a heightened level of involvement in new directions.

Q. What are your dreams and goals for the future?

I want to become a prominent scientist in biomaterial and biomedical research. I hope to develop technology, which benefits human life and has an impact on the world. I want to find talented researchers to work with and expand my perspectives. Eventually, my dream is to found a corporation and contribute to the health of people.

Q. Please give a message to people who are thinking about entering graduate school.

There is no language barrier at a graduate school, which accepts overseas students who are very skilled and knowledgeable. Toyo University Graduate School is the best place to learn practical, technical research techniques.
