Educational Goals

Master Course

1.   Persons with research capabilities in science and engineering based on specialized knowledge of science and engineering that integrates physics with engineering

  • Possession of the specialized knowledge that is the foundation of science and engineeringand recognition of the breadth of advanced research fields in their fields of specialization
  • Ability to discover and solve scientific problems from an original perspective
  • Flexibility to push boundaries and explore new fields in addition to one’s area of specialized expertise

2. Persons with the practical skills to advance research activities and publish research results as a researcher, engineer and educator

  • International perspective capable of understanding both global outlooks and local values
  • Ability to communicate and present ideas in a way that conveys one’s own thoughts as a full member of society

Doctoral Course

1. Persons capable of advancing independent research in science and engineering based on specialized knowledge in these fields

  • Ability to launch research projects of one’s own initiative and to discover and solve scientific problems from an original perspective as a research leader
  • Flexibility to push boundaries and explore new fields in addition to one’s area of specialized expertise

2. Persons with practical skills and the leadership to pursue research activities and publish research results as a research professional

  • An international perspective capable of understanding both global outlooks and local values
  • Ability to communicate and present ideas in a way that conveys one’s own thoughts to overseas researchers and engineers

 

Policy Overview

 The three policies of the Graduate School of Science and Engineeringare as follows.

Admissions Policy

Based on the aims for which the School was established, its educational philosophy and its targets, the School’s admissions policy is to seek entrants with the following characteristics.

  • Persons who share the philosophy and objectives of the Graduate School of Science and Engineering and possess the basic skills and ambition to implement them
  • Persons who have cultivated a basic grounding in the natural sciences and possess sufficient basic academic ability in their field of specialization, and who, on that basis, demonstrate the attitude and ability to think logically
  • Persons filled with the desire and practical ability to explore new worlds with a creative spirit
  • Persons having the necessary English-language and other communication skills for research activities
  • Persons filled with the ambition and curiosity to grapple wholeheartedly with research issues

Curriculum Policy

The Graduate School of Science and Engineering assembles its curriculum to cultivate the following abilities as stipulated in its educational targets.

1.Specialized knowledge of science and engineering that integrates the disciplines of physics and engineering

  • Possession of the specialized knowledge that forms the basis of science and engineering
  • Understanding of the breadth of advanced research areas in specialized fields
  • Possession of original perspectives and an ability to discover and solve problems
  • Flexibility to push boundaries and explore new fields in addition to one’s area of specialized expertise

2. Practical ability

  • International perspective capable of understanding both global outlooks and local values
  • Ability to communicate and present ideas in a way that conveys one’s own thoughts as a full member of society
  • Practical language skills for application in research activities
  • Concrete study and research activities at the School coupled with presentation and publication of research results in Japan and overseas
  • Hands-on, practical capabilities acquired through internships

Diploma Policy

Master Course

  • Students build on the results they earned in basic and specialized education in the master’s program to acquire a wide range of specialized knowledge in their respective research fields, while garnering broad scholarly achievements through cross-disciplinary understanding beyond the student’s existing field of expertise.
  • Through education acquired in the course of research, students develop the ability to advance research,the ability to explain research results logically and strong ethics in academic research, thereby gaining the ability to discover and solve problems of their own initiative.

Doctoral Course

  • In addition to acquiring a broad range of specialized knowledge related to their respective research fields, students develop the ability to plan and advance research, the ability to explain research results logically, strong ethics in academic research and the independent research skill and leadership to pioneer new research fields in the international arena.

教育研究上の理念・目的

理工学研究科では、理工学部と一貫した教育体制を確立することで、本学の建学の精神である「諸学の基礎は哲学にあり」を重視するとともに、理学に基づいた基礎的な自然科学の法則や考え方を理解し、それを科学・技術の分野に応用することにより、環境と調和のとれた高度な専門能力・創造力・人間性豊かな倫理観を備えた人材を養成する。

博士前期課程においては高度の専門的職業人材および教育者の養成、博士後期課程においては研究者の養成に重点をおく。

 

アドミッション・ポリシー(入学者受入れの方針)

理工学研究科が望む学生像

理工学研究科では、設立の趣旨、教育理念・目標に基づき、次のような入学者を求める。

  • 理工学研究科が掲げる理念と目的に共感し、これを遂行するための基本的能力と意欲をもつ人
  • 自然科学分野における基礎的な教養を身につけており、かつ特定の専門分野において十分な基礎学力を備えている人。また、それらをもとに論理的に思考する姿勢と能力をもっている人
  • 創造的に新しい世界を開拓しようとする意欲と実行力に満ちた人
  • 研究活動に必要な英語力、コミュニケーション能力を身につけている人
  • 積極的に研究課題に取り組む意欲と探究心に溢れている人

 

カリキュラム・ポリシー(教育課程編成・実施の方針)

理工学研究科では、上記の教育目標を達成するために、以下に示す能力を持った人材を養成する。

1.理学と工学の融合した理工学の専門知識

  • 理工学の基礎となる専門知識の習得
  • 専門分野の先進的研究領域の広がりの理解
  • 問題発見・解決能力、独創的視点の習得
  • 科学的問題解決能力
  • 専門的な知識のみならず、境界領域や新しい分野をも開拓しうる柔軟性

2.実践能力

  • グローバルな視点とローカルな価値観を理解する国際的視野
  • 社会人として自らの考えを伝えるコミュニケーション及びプレゼンテーション能力
  • 研究活動を通じて実践的な語学力
  • 学内での具体的な調査・研究活動、国内外での学会発表・論文投稿
  • インターンシップを通じた体験的実践能力

 

ディプロマ・ポリシー(学位授与の方針)

博士前期課程

  • 学士課程での基礎・専門教育によって得た成果を発展させ、研究分野に関する幅広い専門的知識とともに、既成の専門分野にとらわれずに分野横断的に理解する広い学識を身につける。
  • 研究を通じた教育を介して、研究の推進能力、研究成果の論理的説明能力、学術研究における倫理性等を備え、自ら課題を発見し解決する能力を身につける。

博士後期課程

  • 研究分野に関連する高度で幅広い専門的知識の修得に加え、研究企画・推進能力、研究成果の論理的説明能力、学術研究における高い倫理性等を備えるとともに、新しい研究分野を国際的に先導することのできる自立した研究能力やリーダーシップを身につける。
