On October 5, 2015, Professor Kazuhito Omaki of the Faculty of Information Sciences and Arts received a Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry’s Award (METI Minister’s Award) in the ministry’s FY 2015 Industrial Standardization Awards.

Extract from the introduction to the contribution by Professor Kazuhito Omaki

Professor Kazuhito Omaki has contributed to adapting information technology in Japan to Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) as chairperson of the specialist board for information technology, Japanese Industrial Standards Committee. Additionally, as chairperson of the domestic technical committee for ISO/IEC JTC1, he has strived to integrate domestic opinions from a wide range of technological fields, as well as serving as the head of the delegation at JTC1’s annual assemblies to reflect opinions from Japan in discussions there. Furthermore, he also has served on multiple domestic boards, including the domestic specialist boards for JTC1/SC2 (coded character sets), to promote the standardization of character codes.
