-Research Field-
(研究分野)

Globalization is an interdisciplinary trend. Much of the research in the field to date has been examining the relationships between political, economic, cultural and social factors in relation to global issues. Education is an important component of soft power amongst the tides of globalization, promoting cooperation and competition in international society. My research has mainly related to international education policy through comparative perspectives. I bear an interest in the impact of higher education exchange at regional, national and institutional levels.

Subject:
Education from International Comparative Perspectives

Overview:
Globalization has dramatically changed the context for higher education. A major example of this change is the promotion of academic mobility. Academic mobility in higher education refers to the movement of people, knowledge, programs and institutions across national borders. During the last two decades, European countries formed the locus of academic mobility. However, the decentralization of academic mobility has been accelerated in recent years via the advent of the global knowledge economy, raising some Asian and Gulf countries to the fore. This class will look at (1) the factors promoting the decentralization of academic mobility, (2) government and institutional rationales and approaches to academic mobility and (3) the impact of academic mobility on the social, cultural and economic fabric.
