The Center, established in 2001, was reorganized in 2006 with a new mission. In addition to the Center's original target to contribute to Asian developing countries through community and environmental management, the Center commenced research for new paradigm of international cooperation. The new research topics include the study on the roadmap of post-conflict countries towards development, rural development, and poverty reduction in African countries.

The 21st Century Human Interaction Research Center (HIRC21) is a promotion center for collaborative research projects to unravel, through ideals and experience, the nature and transformation of human interactions that have become key topics of interest in modern society. Research activities are conducted in two separate project groups: "Complexities and Transformation of Ego and Self in Modern Societies", and "Perpetrator, Victim (Sufferer), and Society in Crime, Misbehavior, and Disasters"

The research theme of the Center is to study creative, new competitive edges by management, marketing and technologies from Japan. The study group will promote unique and original studies relevant to competitive edges of Japanese companies, by connecting management and marketing with technology. These bidirectional projects in collaboration with management executives are expected to become the active agent for Japanese businesses.

Research Center for Kyosei Philosophy (selected in 2006) Graduate School of Literature |
| Open Research Center for Kyosei (Harmonious Coexistence) philosophy will be established in fiscal year 2006 as a subdivision of the doctoral courses of Buddhism and Chinese Philosophy in the Graduate School of Literature. Toyo University aims to establish a new field of Kyosei Studies for academic and comprehensive discussions and proposals on the realization of Kyosei. The Center will contribute to this undertaking from the perspective of Oriental Philosophy by pursuing the principles of Kyosei based on Oriental wisdom and deriving practical approaches. |
