Research 2006-2007
Partnership Between Universities and Industries
The program promotes joint research projects and partnerships, for example, in utilizing intellectual properties, with large companies, venture capitals, and regional companies that will contribute to the growth of local industries. Two of our research centers have been selected by MEXT to contribute to the promotion of educational research and to work toward implementation of the research results.
Plant Regulation Research Center
(selected in 2003) Graduate School of Life Sciences
In search of solutions for issues concerning crop production and food safety, the research group is aiming for "the establishment of evaluation systems for plant growth, a highly sensitive detection system for the trace element content, and quantification systems of plant-pathogenic fungi". Research findings will be released to the public to assist local industries and farmers. The Center also serves as a base for bio-related businesses in the Northern Kanto area.

Center for Regional Industrial Symbiosis Research (CRIS)
(selected in 2004) Graduate School of Engineering
Aiming to "establish environmental management system and business models for sustainable regional symbiosis", the Center for Regional Industrial Symbiosis Research (CRIS) is conducting university industry joint research projects in collaboration with Sekisui Chemical Co. and Kawasaki City and other execellent business and municipal organizations, to develop environmental technologies for regional sustainability and urban infrastructure system. JapanŐs first experimental disassembling & reassembling model house was built on our Kawagoe Campus. There are future plans for a large-scale industry-academic-government project in collaboration with city residents, NPOs, and governmental organizations to achieve recyclable symbiosis of construction materials and organic matters in the metropolitan area.

Symbiotic Robot Research Center (SRC)
(selected in 2006) Graduate School of Engineering
In collaboration with local companies and municipal government, the Center has established a health management network to support the peaceful lives of elderly people and their families, and developed robots that will serve as interface between the network and users. The robots will capture the physical and mental health conditions of human beings in their normal settings, and contact medical institutions and take necessary actions based on the results of data analysis. The Center will also propose new housing environments to live with these robots.
