History
1887 Dr. Enryo Inoue founds private school Tetsugakukan (forerunner of Toyo University) on the grounds of Rinsho-in Temple in Takioka, Hongo
1903 Name Testugakukan changed to Private University Testugakukan.
1904 Completion of Testugaku-do campus (donated to Tokyo Prefecture in 1944).
1906 Name changed to Toyo University.
1916 Enrollment of women (one of the first co-ed schools).
1919 Death of founder Dr. Enryo Inoue in Dalian, China.
1928 Toyo University sanctioned under the University Establishment Law.
1949 Restructured as New University under National School Establishment Law; Undergraduate School of Literature established.
1950 Undergraduate School of Economics and junior college established.
1952 Graduate School of Literature founded.
1956 Undergraduate School of Law established.
1959 Undergraduate School of Sociology established.
1961 Opening of Kawagoe Campus; Undergraduate School of Engineering established.
1964 Correspondence courses established.
1966 Undergraduate School of Business Administration established.
1977 Opening of Asaka Campus.
1987 Celebration of 100th Anniversary.
1990 Founding of Inoue Enryo Memorial Center.
1992 Completion of Hakusan Campus Building No. 1.
1994 Initiation of academic calendar beginning in October; completion of Hakusan Campus Buildings No. 2 and No. 3.
1996 Bio-Nano Electronics Research Center established.
1997 Opening of Itakura Campus. Faculties of Regional Development Studies, Life Sciences established.
1998 Remote lecture system "Space Collaboration System" and information network system "ToyoNet" implemented.
2001 Completion of Hakusan Campus Building No. 4 and Itakura Campus Building No. 3.
2002 Completion of Hakusan Campus Hosui-no-Mori Park, Kawagoe Campus Building No. 1 and Library.
2003 Completion of Hakusan Campus Enryo Inoue Memorial Building and Kawagoe Campus Building No. 2.
2004 Professional Graduate School(Law School) established.
2005 Freshmen and sophomores at Asaka Campus (Undergraduate Schools of Literature, Economics, Business Administration, Law and Sociology) transferred to Hakusan Campus to start unifi ed education.
Undergraduate School of Human Life Design founded at Asaka Campus.
2006 Hakusan 2nd Campus opened and Law School relocated there. Otemachi Satellite opened as a result of founding the Public Private Partnership Program at Graduate School of Economics.
2007 Graduate School of Interdisciplinary New Science founded.
2008 150th anniversary of Dr. Enryo Inouefs birth.
Human Development and PrimaryElementary Education Courses established at Department of Education of Undergraduate School of Literature (day course). Department of Social Economic Systems of Undergraduate School of Economics renamed Department of Policy Studies.
2009 Undergraduate School of Engineering reorganized as Undergraduate School of Science and Engineering.
Undergraduate School of Information Science and Arts founded at Kawagoe Campus.
Departments of Applied Biosciences and Food Life Sciences founded at Undergraduate School of Life Sciences.
Human Care and Support, and Child careSupport Courses established at Department of Human Care and Support of Undergraduate School of Human Life Design.
Undergraduate School of Regional Development Studies relocated to Hakusan 2nd Campus.
Human Environment Design Program founded at Graduate School of Welfare Society Design.
Environmental Studies Course established in Economics Program of Graduate School of Economics.
2010 Department of Regional Development Studies at Undergraduate School of Regional Development Studies adopted a two-course system with the addition of the Regional Studies CourseComprehensive Course (evening course).
Marketing and Business Accounting and Finance Programs established at Graduate School of Business Administration. The small and medium-size enterprise management consultant course was established in Business Accounting and Finance Program.
7th Building of Kawagoe Campus and 5th building of Itakura Campus completed.
