1-2. Details of Each Programs
① Exchange Program
Exchange Program allows students to study for one semester or one academic year at one of our partner universities or a member of global student exchange consortium (ISEP, UMAP, etc.). Students can study abroad without taking a leave of absence from Toyo University. In principle, they are exempt from paying tuition at their host institution and take courses in the regular curriculum. They can also receive scholarships, the amount of which varies depending on the period of study abroad.
② Independent Study Abroad Program
Independent Study Abroad Program allows students to study for one semester or one academic year at an overseas degree-granting university. The relevant university may be located in any country or region. Students can study abroad without taking a leave of absence from Toyo University. Although they are required to pay tuition at their host university, they can receive scholarships, the amount of which varies depending the period of study abroad, if they are certified as students who study abroad under the Independent Study Abroad Program. They take courses in the regular curriculum at their host university.
In principle, students are required to carry out application and admission procedures by themselves. It is therefore essential to collect adequate information and make a detailed plan before departure.
③ Semester Abroad Language Program
Semester Abroad Language Program allows students to study a foreign language at a language school operated by our partner institutions for three or six months. This program aims to enable students to improve their foreign language skills and offers them an opportunity to experience a different culture. Although they are required to pay tuition at their host institution, they can receive scholarships if they meet the requirement. They can also study abroad without taking a leave of absence from Toyo University.
④ Short-term Language Seminar
Short-term Language Seminar enables students to study a foreign language or one to two months during summer or spring breaks. These seminars aim to provide an opportunity for students to improve their language skills and understanding of another culture through language training, student exchange events, homestay, and other various activities.
⑤ Internship and Volunteer Abroad
Internship and Volunteer Abroad will be offered to help students develop basic skills necessary to work actively on a global stage, including English skills, understanding of different cultures, and business manners. Each programs are conducted for two to six weeks during the summer and spring breaks. These programs provide students with opportunities not only to improve their English skills but also to learn first-hand about the economic situation, cultures and customs of other countries through the social experience of “working.” Overseas internship and volunteer experiences will benefit students in their future endeavors in studies and career development.
⑥ United Nations Volunteers
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) program is a long-term internship program in which participants work at UN offices or government institutions in developing countries for approximately five months as youth volunteers under the coordination of UNV. The program offers the participants an opportunity to develop a high level of career consciousness and leadership by being involved in public relations, fieldwork, or other activities together with local UN staff members.
⑦ Diversity Voyage
Organized by Global Incubation x Fostering Talents (GiFT), the Diversity Voyage Program is a short-term overseas training program conducted during the summer and spring breaks. Through the program, students can not only improve their language skills, but also develop the ability to adapt to diversity by engaging in co-creation activities and collaborative work while communicating in a foreign language with local students abroad.
